I consider myself a veteran of the indoor birthday party scene in Joplin, as my children have celebrated their special days at most places in town over the past decade.
You see, we have a birthday party season in our household, which is actually a sub-season of winter. Most people are relieved when the rush of holiday events in December is over, but not us. That is exactly when our birthday season begins. Yes, all five people at our house celebrate birthdays in January and February.
I’ve put together a list of indoor birthday party venues for those of you planning winter birthday parties. This list may also come in handy for those celebrating birthdays in the middle of Joplin’s unbearably hot, humid summers, too.
I’ve listed the basic party packages for each of the following locations, but keep in mind that most locations have more than one package.
Candy House: While Candy House Gourmet Chocolates does not have a space available for birthday parties, you can schedule a FREE tour of the candy-making factory as part of a birthday celebration. Tours are offered Monday – Friday, 9:30 AM – 2:00 PM and take about 15-20 minutes. 510 S. Kentucky
Carl Richard Bowling Center:Several years ago, we had a tiki-themed party here. There are long tables on the main floor that we decorated and placed the gifts and cake on. The party package includes one bowling game and pair of rental shoes/child, 5 video game tokens/child, one free game pass/child to be used at the next visit, one pizza and pitcher of soda for every 4 children. 1419 W. 4th Street
Chuck E. Cheese‘s: We’ve always had a good experience here, as the staff is very helpful and the party host makes sure everything runs smoothly. Kids can play video games, or climb through the SkyTubes and rock out on the dance floor for some physical fun. The basic party package includes two hours of reserved table space with a party host to facilitate the event, table cloth and plates, two slices of one-topping pizza/child, one soft drink with free refills/child, 20 tokens/child, a jumbo guitar balloon and other perks for the birthday child. Create N Sip Studios: While you might think of Create N Sip as a fun place for grown-ups to go to enjoy adult beverages while painting, it does offer sessions (alcohol-free, of course) for all ages, as well as birthday party packages. These packages include studio time, instructor, paint, canvases, and aprons. You can bring your own snacks and drinks, and they will do the cleanup. 223 W. Third Street
Firehouse Pottery:Kids will have fun with their friends painting a piece of pottery that they can take home with them. Package themes include The Tile is My Canvas; Oh, My Mug; Party Animal; If You Give a Pig a Party; Tickle Monster; and Choose Your Own Pottery. 112 South Main Street, Suite A
The Flip Shop: Gymnastics parties are offered here. The party package includes gym rental for 1.5 hours (one hour play time and 20-30 minutes for gifts and cake). 612 Minnesota
House of Bounce: Gigantic inflatable slides, bounce houses and an obstacle course are always winners with the kids. Choose a private party or an open bounce party. 3684 North Main Street
Ocean Adventures: Geared toward kids up to age 12, this indoor playground features three levels of fun. Birthday parties here last two hours and include a private room, paper and plastic ware, and a special treat for the birthday child. 2630 S. Duquesne
Roller City: This roller skating venue offersseveral party packages to choose from (classic, bargain, pizza, glow, public/private). The classic package (during public skate) includes invitations, a reserved table with tablecloth and serving ware,two pitchers of soft drinks,skating fee and skate rental fee/child, host parents skate free, and one item from the Stuff Shop for the birthday child. 2800 E. 24th Street
Spiva Center for the Arts: Throw an art party at Spiva with one of these themes: Painting Party, Wacky Sculpture, or Paint It! Print It! Wear It! You provide the decorations and refreshments and Spiva will take care of the rest. Spiva membership and 50% deposit required at the time of reservation. Guests must be between the ages of 4 and 12. Located inside the Harry M. Cornell Arts and Entertainment Complex, 212 W. 7th Street
Soar Trampoline Park: Activities here includebasketball, dodgeball, wipeout, a foam pit, and an open court with 40 trampolines. Birthday packages include pizza, and you can either reserve a table or a private room (for an extra charge). Parties last 2 hours.1502 S. Madison Street, Webb City.
Tilt Studio: With video games, mini golf, bowling, an amusem*nt ride and laser tag, the kids were definitely entertained. Because there are so many things to do there, pricing for birthdays can be a bit confusing. I found it easier to go to the studio itself and talk to an employee about which package would best serve our needs. The basic party package includes unlimited video play (with a half-hour time limit),two slices of one-topping pizza/person, and unlimited soda. The basic package does NOT include any attractions (attractions can be purchased separately), but the other packages do (you can see how it gets confusing). Northpark Mall,101 N. Range Line Road
