What is the best way to reheat green beans?

Want to enjoy your green beans the second time around? Here are our best tips for reheating your green beans for maximum enjoyment.

  1. Microwave:
    • Place the green beans in a microwave-safe dish.
    • Sprinkle a little water over them to create steam during reheating. This helps to prevent them from drying out.
    • Cover the dish with a microwave-safe lid or plastic wrap, but leave a small vent for steam to escape.
    • Microwave on high for 1-2 minutes. Stir the green beans halfway through the reheating time to ensure even heating.
    • Check the temperature and continue heating in 30-second increments if necessary.
  2. Stovetop:
    • Place the green beans in a skillet or saucepan.
    • Add a small amount of water, broth, or even a pat of butter to help rehydrate the beans and add some flavor.
    • Cover and heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the green beans are heated. This typically takes around 5-7 minutes.

Please tell me what the Maggi Seasoning is used in Outbacks Green Beans? You don’t even have the recipe for it or what to use? You said “See Note”. Well there is no “See Note”.

These are great, I’ve made them twice now, but haven’t followed exactly. Specifically, I cut the butter way down. You call for 4 oz of butter…that’s a whole stick. The pic seems to show a half a stick or 4 tbs… I’m using 3 tbs, and that seems quite adequate, and I LOVE butter. So is it really a whole stick? Also at the end, you call for using only half of the seasoning mix. What?

So in the recipe you mention that there is a note with regard to the “Maggi Seasoning”. I could not find the note. Could you tell me where to purchase it or how to make it. I love Outback green beans & would love to know what makes them taste different.

Maggi seasoning is a brand with multiple bouillons, sauces and spices available. The recipe is tasty regardless but I would like to know more specifics about Maggi seasonings.

I find that1/4 c. Brown sugar 3 T. soy sauce and 1/2 stick of butter sautéed with 2 T. of minced garlic 1/4 tsp. of crushed red pepper works well in place of the Maggi sauce. Melt butter on low heat, sauté garlic until soft add brown sugar, and soy sauce. Cook over low heat until thickened. Maybe you will like this?

I served these to my husband last night without mention of a new recipe. He immediately said, “these are the best string beans I’ve ever had! What did you do to them?” Thank you for the recipe! Our store didn’t have maggi seasoning so I did what others did and used soy sauce.

FAQs

What makes green beans taste better? ›

Soy sauce is one of the easiest answers to how to flavor green beans. You can throw in some of this soy sauce, sesame oil, olive oil, ginger, and garlic and pan fry until glassy and green and you may never want to eat green beans any other way again.

How to make Paula Deen green beans? ›

Add green beans to pan and sauté over medium heat for 2 minutes, stirring frequently. Add boiling water to pan and cover. Cook for about 15 minutes, just until beans are tender. Add vinegar, butter and salt and pepper and stir.

Why are my steamed green beans tough? ›

On a cooking note, regarding tough green beans, you may be undercooking them.

Why do restaurant beans taste better? ›

While lard has been replaced with vegetable oil or shortening in many households, the distinct richness and velvety texture it imparts to a skillet of refried beans is hard to beat. The closest substitute for lard is bacon grease, which is another form of rendered pork fat that's arguably even more flavorful.

How to cook green beans Jamie Oliver? ›

Put a pan of salted water on to boil. Meanwhile, trim the the beans. Once the water is boiling, steam or boil the beans until tender. Drain well, then tip the cooked beans into the bowl with your dressing and toss everything together, making sure all the beans get coated.

Why cook green beans in baking soda? ›

Your Beans Will Cook Faster

Well, creating an alkaline (or basic) environment by adding a small amount (about 1 teaspoon per cup of dry beans) of baking soda to your soaking/cooking water can actually help your beans cook faster.

How to make beans taste homemade? ›

Toss drained/rinsed/dried beans with a bit of olive oil (or avocado oil) and your favorite seasonings. You can add crushed whole seeds (coriander, cumin, fennel, mustard, etc.), woodsy herbs (thyme, oregano, rosemary, sage), red pepper flakes, crushed garlic cloves, and of course salt and pepper.

Why did my green beans turn brown when steamed? ›

When the pot is covered, the steam and the acids it contains are forced back into the water. Once there, the acids react with the chlorophyll in the vegetables, turning them an unsightly shade of brown.

Is it better to steam or boil green beans? ›

Why Steam Instead of Boil Green Beans? Because it's faster. One inch of water takes a fraction of the time to come up to a boil compared to a full pot of water. Also, less nutrients are leached out of the green beans when they steam compared to when they're fully submerged in boiling water.

Why cut off ends of green beans? ›

The only part of the bean that always needs to be removed is the tip of the stem end (this is sometimes called "topping" the bean), where the pod was once attached to the rest of the plant. There is no practical need to remove the tail end of a green bean—the choice to do so is aesthetic.

What is the difference between French style green beans and regular green beans? ›

French green beans (also called Haricots Verts) are slightly longer and skinnier than regular green beans and may be a little bit more expensive. They are harvested earlier then regular green beans, so they are thought to be more tender and more flavorful.

Why do French cut green beans taste better? ›

The main different is the texture. Because French cut green beans are sliced so thinly they cook up silky and tender. The slicing also turns the veggie from a tube to a strip, which helps the beans absorb the flavors they're cooked with (more on that below).

How can I make my beans more flavorful? ›

Add Aromatics (and Some Salt)

We're talking onions, shallots, garlic, and chiles. Or maybe some fresh herbs like rosemary, sage, bay leaves, and thyme. This is where the flavor really starts to build. Salt the liquid again (lightly) after about an hour of simmering.

How do I jazz up green beans? ›

A light sprinkle of red pepper flakes can add extra oomph and a bit of heat to your green beans. Start small and add more, to taste! Add Almonds Some Crunch. My favorite variation is adding some toasted sliced almonds for a little crunch.

How to get bitterness out of green beans? ›

Blanch Them

Blanching your greens is key to getting that bitterness level down. Because glucosinolates are water-soluble compounds, a lot of them are leached out into the water, allowing for a less bitter green.

Do coffee grounds help green beans? ›

What Vegetables Like Coffee Grounds? Coffee grounds as a fertilizer can be used when growing vegetable crops such as potatoes, cucumbers, peppers, carrots, radishes, and beans. Root crops need magnesium and potassium, while nitrogen is indispensable for green crops.
